Instead of forcing one standard onto every product, the importance of each feature is weighted by category. You can find out more about how we test in Test Methodology, while the metrics are scored the same way across the board in using criterion mentioned in Scoring Rubrics.
Each category applies different internal weightings for each metric, but the final score is always normalized to 0–10. This is to ensure that if a feature is irrelevant to a product’s category, it is not treated as a failure.
This prevents:
- Penalizing slim models for lacking performance
- Penalizing laptop power banks for portability
- Rewarding unnecessary features that don’t improve usability
Design intent is respected, but execution is still judged.
